Mount Vernon Canyon is enjoyed by about 10,000 residents who
participate in elected Special District governments: Genesee Fire, Foothills
Fire, Genesee Water & Sanitation, Lookout Mountain Water, Highland
Rescue, Mount Vernon Metro, and Forest Hills Metro. Three parts of
Genesee are each managed by an elected board. The west View from the
I-70 bridge at exit 254 is listed as one of Colorado's most outstanding
public places. An estimated 30 homeowner associations belong to Canyon
Area Residents for the Environment.
