Coors brewing has been the primary business in Golden since 1880. After arriving in the U.S. as a penniless stowaway in 1868, Adolph Kuhrs (1847-1929) changed his name and worked his
way west in 1872. He worked with a saloon
proprietor who funded a small brewery within ten months. He helped attract the railroad and tourists and appreciated Golden’s newspapers, schools, water supply, and optimistic community spirit. By 1880, he was the sole owner of Golden Brewery and tourism. He started manufacturing porcelain during World War I and malted milk during prohibition. Tourist visiting is welcome at Miller Coors.

In 1925, Mars Candy Co. named Coors its #1 malted milk supplier. The deal kept the doors open during Prohibition, but just barely.
