Westernaires is the largest horse organization devoted to young people at one location in the world. The mission of the mounted precision drill organization is to nurture self-respect, integrity, responsibility and leadership of Je erson County young people age 9-19 through horsemanship. It began in 1949 and gained a barn at Je Co Fairgrounds in 1959. The facility now has 3 outdoor and 4 indoor areas, horse stables, classrooms, club store, kitchen, museum and caretaker quarters.
There are about 1000 youth members supported by 500 adult volunteers who teach and supervise. Some members perform for television and movies, including more than 50 motion pictures. Westernaires also participate in many parades. The Westernaires Museum o ers a history of Western horsemanship and is available to the public.
