Trails are designated for hiking, biking, horseback riding, climbing and picnicking. The park connects with Red Rocks Park and Discovery Center. Dinosaur Ridge is on the east side of the backdrop o C470.
Matthews/Winters Park was enjoyed by Paleo-Indians until Je Co settlers arrived in 1859. Chief Colorow, a ubiquitous, half-Ute, half-Apache Indian, held councils with his renegade band on the Hogback. Settlers established Mount Vernon Towne and used the area primarily for visitors, housing, ranching and mineral extraction.
A constitutional convention met in June of 1859 to create either a state or territory to be called Je erson. Although the gold region’s population was estimated to be over 10,000, only 2,650 people voted that September, deciding to become a territory.
