Evergreen Community Service
Evergreen residents replace city government as volunteers with nonpro t organization of annual events: 4th of July Freedom Run, Music Festival, Summerfest, Winterfest, Evergreen Rodeo, Fine Arts Festival, chili suppers and pancake breakfasts among others. Artists incorporated Evergreen Arts Council in 1974 and collaborated with Evergreen Park and Recreation to create Center for the Arts Evergreen in Buchanan Park in 2003. Exhibition and education will continue in the recently acquired historic Bergen Park Church.
Volunteers for Evergreen Animal Protection League (EAPL) have managed to save thousands of homeless pets since 1981. EAPL rents a “cat room” for adoption at the local Chow Down store. Evergreen residents consistently support quality land use changes and open space. Protect Our Mountain Environment (POME) began in 1980. Evergreen North Area Balanced Land Use E ort (ENABLE) is a consortium of 26 homeowner associations serving as a volunteer “town council” monitoring land use since 1985. Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) volunteers have managed to preserve 20,808 acres of land, including Noble Meadow, Blair Ranch, and Beaver Brook Water Shed since 1992. There are many more active community organizations. The Evergreen Chamber of Commerce began in 1927 and serve 500 members in 2016.
