Center for the Arts Evergreen (CAE)
32003 Ellingwood Trail #B, 80439 • 303-674-0056 • EvergreenArts.org
Evergreen area art enthusiasts formed and incorporated the Evergreen Arts Council as they pursed a plan to build a visual arts/community center in 1974. Their intention was to provide mountain area residents with a place to acquire high quality art instruction, view a wide variety of art exhibitions and engage in art activities. In November 2003 that building became a reality with the lease of a 3,500 square foot facility in Buchanan Park partnering with the Evergreen Park and Recreation District. This Center houses exhibit space, classrooms and meeting spaces. The Center schedules twelve annual art exhibitions showcasing nationally accomplished artists as well as artists from the mountain community.
In February 2007 the Evergreen Arts Council’s Board of Directors voted to merge the Council and Art Center under one organization’s name: The Center for the Arts Evergreen. In 2015, CAE acquired the former Bergen Park Church, on Hwy 65, a historical designation. Part of the building was originally the 1880s, one-room Soda Creek school house. The historic integrity of the building will remain, while cutting-edge design, technology and function is the focus of a transformation based on completing the $2 million renovation to be completed in 2017. The evolution from school to church to art center retains the site’s community service.
