west o  Hwy 8. The CCC built Red Rocks Park Amphitheatre with 8,700 seats, the largest federal project, from 1935 to completion in 1941. Architect Burnham Hoyt designed the 10,000-seat theatre and orchestra pit. The CCC camp remains intact and is utilized by Denver Mountain Parks sta .
The amphitheatre has since hosted a full range of events from graduations, conventions and opera, to Broadway musicals, movies, and rock & roll concerts. The annual Easter Sunrise Service began in 1947. Denver acquired 200 more acres adjacent to the park in 2001 and allocated $26.4 million to restore the Amphitheatre and build a 30,000 square-foot visitors center, restaurant, meeting facility and history exhibit. Runners exercise there daily. In 2015, the historic Trading Post became home for a Colorado Music Hall of Fame.
The Trading Post, historically
known as the Red Rocks Pueblo,
is a great place to shop for
unique Red Rocks souvenirs and
exhibits. The southwest structure
was constructed in 1931 and has
a breathtaking view of the valley
and rock formations to the south.
It is also the perfect place to start a walking tour of the park. The 1.4 mile Trading Post trail winds thought the spectacular Fountain and Lions formations with a narrow, rough surface that follows moderate to steep terrain.
